as an artist, i believe an object tells a story.

my work is inspired by functional objects that have been present throughout history- a cup, a plate, a spoon, a water jug... timeless, clean and simple. traveling in the mediterranean as a child, i became acutely aware of the handmade in the region.  its architecture and artifacts awakened an artistic sensibility that has shaped my life & work.

i create sculptural vessels that are, like the human figure, unique and one of a kind, changing from every view point.  art pieces that are made to be held and used. objects that aesthetically enhance the everyday moments of life.  the vessels are coil hand sculpted, a technique that reaches into antiquity and predates throwing on a wheel.  the simplicity of hand building artistically stands out in a world that is striving towards mathematical perfection- where the human imprint of the creative moment is hidden or lost.

for me, the imperfect line, the off-centered object is the art.

one of my first customers was from southern france in wine country. she purchased my ‘in vino veritas’ decanter and told me that she would be using it to bring home wine from a local vineyard.

i envision this process happening among these vineyards for millenia. it is this type of story that adds value for me as an artist. to feel connected not only to the buyer but to the universal rituals of the everyday object.

dating

some pieces are dated by what is actually happening in the sky (astronomical / sidereal) the day the piece is finished before being fired. first is the sign the sun is in (month) , then the moon waxing or waning (the week), then the day of the week and then the year. please feel free to message me if you have any questions.

info + care instructions

* all glaze used for tableware is food safe

* unglazed pieces are not recommended for food

* hand washing is highly recommended for longevity which preserves patinas on both raw stoneware and glazes, however completely dishwasher safe. microwaves heat unevenly, not recommended for hand built pottery.

* if any of the porcelain washed stonewares, raw clay or glazed pieces seem to stain/discolor use borax + water with a cloth.
